# SITIVENI RABUKA ACCUSED OF TRYING TO STAGE ANOTHER COUP IN A FURIOUS RESPONSE TO HIS PLAN FOR A NEW CONSTITUTION BY CHRISTMAS (UPDATED FRIDAY AM)

Posted on September 17, 2026 20 Comments

As Grubsheet predicted, the Prime Minister has stirred up a hornet's nest with the announcement of a parliamentary vote and a referendum that would deliver a new constitution by December 24. The first and most provocative criticism has come not from one of the political parties but from Nilesh Lal - the respected head of Fiji's most influential … [Read more...] about # SITIVENI RABUKA ACCUSED OF TRYING TO STAGE ANOTHER COUP IN A FURIOUS RESPONSE TO HIS PLAN FOR A NEW CONSTITUTION BY CHRISTMAS (UPDATED FRIDAY AM)

# SO NOW WE KNOW. THE GOVERNMENT PLANS TO USE ITS NUMBERS IN THE PARLIAMENT AND THE ITAUKEI MAJORITY TO PUSH THROUGH A NEW CONSTITUTION BY CHRISTMAS

Posted on September 17, 2026 6 Comments

A year after the Supreme Court ruled that the 2013 Constitution is the valid supreme law in Fiji, that constitution is set to be dumped by Christmas. How? The answer is contained in just three sentences in a government Facebook statement yesterday that much of the mainstream media hasn't yet noticed but is already sending shock waves through … [Read more...] about # SO NOW WE KNOW. # FURTHER TO OUR PREVIOUS STORY, FIJI’S HIV CRISIS GOES GENUINELY GLOBAL

Posted on September 16, 2026 5 Comments

Only the Coalition would think it could go to an election with any credibility at all when its response to the escalating incidence of HIV infections in the country has been so woeful. As we reported in our previous article, Parliament is being recalled for a special session next Tuesday yet it isn't about the HIV crisis but to fast-track the … [Read more...] about # FURTHER TO OUR PREVIOUS STORY, FIJI’S HIV CRISIS GOES GENUINELY GLOBAL

# GOD HELP THE ITAUKEI. LITERALLY F**KING OR INJECTING THEMSELVES TOWARDS EXTINCTION

Posted on September 16, 2026 6 Comments

The government has declared a national emergency over the HIV explosion that we are told today now threatens entire iTaukei communities in the vanua. That's right. So many HIV infections, even among babies, that it poses an existential threat to their survival. The government has called a special sitting of the parliament next week. But it's … [Read more...] about # GOD HELP THE ITAUKEI. LITERALLY F**KING OR INJECTING THEMSELVES TOWARDS EXTINCTION

# FIJI IS DRIFTING DANGEROUSLY IN A WORLD SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL

Posted on September 14, 2026 13 Comments

The nation has never needed certainty more than it needs it now yet the Prime Minister and his Coalition colleagues are wallowing in indecision and incompetence, so much so that they are keeping us in ignorance of certain things that should, by now, be set in stone. Is it true that Sitiveni Rabuka sent his Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi … [Read more...] about # FIJI IS DRIFTING DANGEROUSLY IN A WORLD SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL

# THE SHOCK DEATH OF AGNI DEO SINGH ADDS TO THE NFP’S WOES

Posted on September 12, 2026 8 Comments

The grief in Coalition circles at the sudden passing of the Minister for Employment, Agni Deo Singh, is being compounded by the realisation that the law prevents anyone from filling his seat this close to an election. According to Section 64 (3) of the Constitution, it is too late for the NFP to fill the seat with the "next cab off the rank" - … [Read more...] about # THE SHOCK DEATH OF AGNI DEO SINGH ADDS TO THE NFP’S WOES

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
