The celebrated coconut wireless in Fiji is on the brink of meltdown as reports circulate that the Deputy Prime Minister and heir apparent to Sitiveni Rabuka - Manoa Kamikamica - is telling his PAP colleagues that Lynda Tabuya gave the Prime Minister his $150,000 "plus" gold Rolex as a gesture of thanks for her rehabilitation. If this is true - … [Read more...] about # THE SPOTLIGHT FALLS ON LYNDA TABUYA OVER THE PRIME MINISTER’S GOLD ROLEX ( UPDATED TUES AM)

# WHAT’S COMING IF THE CHIEFS GET THEIR WAY. A QOLIQOLI BILL AND “FIJIAN” RESERVED FOR THE ITAUKEI

We are only now starting to realise what the Coalition government and the iTaukei establishment mean by changing the 2013 Constitution as the veil begins to lift on precisely what changes they have in mind. And it is deeply disturbing for the future of non-iTaukei citizens in the country. Grubsheet has been asking for months precisely what … [Read more...] about # WHAT’S COMING IF THE CHIEFS GET THEIR WAY. A QOLIQOLI BILL AND “FIJIAN” RESERVED FOR THE ITAUKEI

Seven months after he last appeared in the opinion columns of the Fiji Times (aside from an obituary of Barrie Sweetman in December), the paper's lawyer, Richard "I have the means" Naidu, is back singing from the same song sheet as his proprietor, Mahendra "Mac" Patel - the FT's "Chairman Emeritus", the first Fijian criminal never to have served … [Read more...] about # RICHIE RICH IS BACK AGAIN SINGING FOR HIS SUPPER

The Fijian media may be underplaying the provenance of Sitiveni Rabuka's $150,000 "plus" gold Rolex watch but the Labour Party leader and former prime minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, isn't going to let him off the hook and is pressing home the political advantage of having his opponent hopelessly pinned on the ropes. # 150,000 PLUS REASONS WHY THE PRIME MINISTER MUST BE REFERRED TO FICAC (UPDATED FRI AM)

Posted on March 13, 2025 60 Comments

In a tacit admission of guilt, Sitiveni Rabuka acknowledges that he has been wearing a "$150,000 plus" gold Rolex watch but he "has he right to remain silent" over allegations that he received it from a local businessman (Mahendra "Mac" Patel) and "those making the allegations must prove what they are saying". The old man has well and truly lost … [Read more...] about # 150,000 PLUS REASONS WHY THE PRIME MINISTER MUST BE REFERRED TO FICAC (UPDATED FRI AM)

# THE LOSERS SHOW THEIR CONTEMPT FOR DEMOCRACY AND THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE

Posted on March 13, 2025 31 Comments

Parliament is the supreme authority in any democracy - the place where the elected representatives of the people gather to make the laws that govern our lives and that we are obliged to obey for the common good. Yet what happens when certain of those elected representatives don't get what they want because they can't persuade their fellow MPs to … [Read more...] about # THE LOSERS SHOW THEIR CONTEMPT FOR DEMOCRACY AND THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
