Fiji continues its march into the abyss as the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, confirms that he is proposing his own chief - the Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu - to be president of the republic after the incumbent, the Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, withdrew from contesting a second term. Unless there is a rebellion in the … [Read more...] about # A RACIST, MISOGYNIST AND ALLEGED CHILD ABUSER FOISTED ON THE NATION AS HEAD OF STATE (UPDATED THURS)

# IS THIS THE WORST INSTANCE OF CORRUPTION IN FIJI?

Posted on October 19, 2024 8 Comments

Most people who engage in corrupt conduct make some attempt to hide it but not Mahendra "Mac" Patel - the "Chairman Emeritus" of the Motibhai Group of companies who was recently pardoned by Sitiveni Rabuka's government without having to face punishment after being found guilty of abuse of office. As Grubsheet has detailed in several articles, … [Read more...] about # IS THIS THE WORST INSTANCE OF CORRUPTION IN FIJI?

# TIS THE SEASON TO STRIKE AND GRUBSHEET IS GOING OUT TOO

Posted on October 18, 2024 9 Comments

Powering down my laptop, packing my bag and heading off into the New South Wales "bush" for some R&R and to clear my head. It isn't strictly a strike because this worker doesn't get paid. But when you run a one man operation, it's important to occasionally walk away. And especially when the news is so unrelentingly depressing that you … [Read more...] about # TIS THE SEASON TO STRIKE AND GRUBSHEET IS GOING OUT TOO

# TODAY’S STRIKE AND DEMONSTRATION AT USP

Posted on October 18, 2024 18 Comments

A video clip of the turnout at USP this morning as the two staff unions go on strike to demand the removal of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Pal Ahluwalia. Posted without too much detail because Grubsheet has given the unions enough stick for withdrawing their services without rubbing it in by making the observation that most Sunday School … [Read more...] about # TODAY’S STRIKE AND DEMONSTRATION AT USP

# IT ISN’T ME, SAYS MANOA, AS SPECULATION RAGES (COMPREHENSIVE UPDATE FRI AM)

Posted on October 17, 2024 31 Comments

Manoa Kamikamica goes public saying he is sweet with the Prime Minister as the nation speculates about the identities of those Sitiveni Rabuka was referring to when he revealed a split in the ranks of the People's Alliance. So who are the rebels and would-be defectors? In the absence of them being outed or identifying themselves, the guessing … [Read more...] about # IT ISN’T ME, SAYS MANOA, AS SPECULATION RAGES (COMPREHENSIVE UPDATE FRI AM)

# USP UNIONS TO STRIKE ON FRIDAY. UPDATED THURS EVENING

Posted on October 17, 2024 20 Comments

The two staff unions at USP haven't wasted any time in announcing strike action tomorrow, including a demonstration at the university's Laucala campus. The announcement - circulated to union members today - doesn't say whether it is a one day stoppage or the commencement of wider action. But USP is making it clear that salaries will be docked … [Read more...] about # USP UNIONS TO STRIKE ON FRIDAY. UPDATED THURS EVENING

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
