Brought to you by the makers of Coca Cola. A new Bounty Rum and Cola with 10 per cent alcohol by volume and a massive sugar hit. A great way to deal with problem drinking among the young and an explosion in the incidence of diabetes. The liquor companies are obliged by law to carry the warning "Enjoy Responsibly". But is it responsible to … [Read more...] about # JUST WHAT FIJIAN YOUNG PEOPLE NEED

On Thursday, barring a miracle, parliament will vote for Fiji to have a convicted criminal, racist, misogynist and alleged child abuser as its next head of state. The determination of the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka to install his own chief - the Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu - as president and representative of all Fijians marks a new low … [Read more...] about # RABUKA LEADS US INTO THE HEART OF DARKNESS

# WHAT’S IN AN ENGLISH WORD? EVERYTHING. (UPDATED SUNDAY AM)

Posted on October 26, 2024 17 Comments

The word "Fijian" does not belong to the iTaukei. It is an English language word to describe people from Fiji, the place. Just as people from Australia are Australian, people from Canada are Canadian, people from America are American and so on. So it is bereft of logic for iTaukei to claim the word "Fijian" as their own. And bereft of logic to … [Read more...] about # WHAT’S IN AN ENGLISH WORD? EVERYTHING. (UPDATED SUNDAY AM)

They have been very good at trumpeting their cause to local politicians and a pliant media. At the end of the first week of the strike by USP unions pressing for the removal of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Pal Ahluwalia, even union leaders themselves are openly expressing their fear of the stoppage fizzling out. Why? Because as the days pass, it is starting to dawn on many of those on strike that they didn't factor in the serious … [Read more...] about # THE “OUCH” FACTOR BEGINS TO BITE AT USP

Fiji continues its march into the abyss as the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, confirms that he is proposing his own chief - the Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu - to be president of the republic after the incumbent, the Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, withdrew from contesting a second term. About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
