# A TRIUMPHANT DAY

Posted on October 11, 2012 90 Comments

In the 42 years since independence, there can have been few Fiji Days more inspiring than Wednesday’s celebration, or one so filled with hope for a better future. It was a magical day in which the country united both formally and informally and our spirits soared with the unveiling of the new-look Fiji Airways. The stunning new livery to be worn by … [Read more...] about # A TRIUMPHANT DAY

# HIJACKING THE MAHATMA

Posted on October 7, 2012 58 Comments

It’s become fashionable in Christian circles for believers seeking guidance on any matter to ask simply “what would Jesus do?” The practice seems to have taken hold in certain Hindu circles in Fiji, judging from an astonishing speech given during the week by the prominent economist and anti-government campaigner, Professor Wadan Narsey. It was … [Read more...] about # HIJACKING THE MAHATMA

# COUP 4.5: GULLIBLE AND GORMLESS

Posted on October 3, 2012 22 Comments

There's something decidedly pathetic when the so-called journalists on the main anti-government website in Fiji are duped into running counterfeit emails. Coup Four and a Half has tonight run the following alleged email exchange between Grubsheet and Sharon Smith Johns, the Permanent Secretary for Information in the Fiji Government. It didn't … [Read more...] about # COUP 4.5: GULLIBLE AND GORMLESS

# 77 REASONS THE “COBBERS” SHOULD GET A GRIP

Posted on October 1, 2012 26 Comments

The pampered diplomats of the foreign affairs establishments in Australia and New Zealand had seventy-seven reasons to choke on their cafe lattes at the weekend as the news came through of yet another diplomatic coup for Fiji. Well seventy-eight reasons, actually. Because Fiji had just been elected chair of the international grouping known as the … [Read more...] about # 77 REASONS THE “COBBERS” SHOULD GET A GRIP

# UN-FIJIAN ASSAULT ON ORDINARY FIJIANS

Posted on September 26, 2012 67 Comments

A high-level Fijian Government delegation heads for Washington this weekend to try to save the jobs of 15-thousand Fijian workers directly threatened by Fijian trade union action in the United States. Pardon me, you might say. Do I need to read that again? You can almost sense the collective intake of breath around the nation. At first, Grubsheet … [Read more...] about # UN-FIJIAN ASSAULT ON ORDINARY FIJIANS

# CHINA CASTIGATES OZ AND NZ “BULLIES”

Posted on September 23, 2012 75 Comments

China has taken Fiji’s side in its continuing standoff with Australia and NZ in dramatic fashion, startling the region’s diplomats with some very undiplomatic comments in Fiji’s defence. They didn’t come in an unnamed commentary in the Chinese media – where tough statements are usually code for what Beijing thinks – but from the mouth of the … [Read more...] about # CHINA CASTIGATES OZ AND NZ “BULLIES”

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
