# THE BEST NEWS FOR A LONG TIME

Posted on June 8, 2024 32 Comments

The announcement that officers of the Australian Federal Police are going to be embedded in the Fiji Police Force and that the AFP will mentor the new police commissioner will be welcomed by all Fijians except the "bad apples" that Pio Tikoduadua says are undermining local law enforcement. Thank God the Home Affairs Minister - and presumably the … [Read more...] about # THE BEST NEWS FOR A LONG TIME

# A BRIDGE ACROSS EIGHT DECADES

Posted on June 8, 2024 24 Comments

Grubsheet has spent much of Saturday watching the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944 that turned the tide of World War Two and eventually led to the defeat of Nazi Germany the following year. There has been a great deal of emotional and inspiring material. But one moment stands out above all else - … [Read more...] about # A BRIDGE ACROSS EIGHT DECADES

# CHAOS AS A PERMANENT WAY OF LIFE

Posted on June 7, 2024 14 Comments

It is nearly 18 months since the Coalition came to power and they have had plenty of time to get their act together. Yet recent events tell us that the "three-legged stool" - which has been wobbly from day one - cannot be relied on by the Fijian people as a safe place to sit. The conduct of government is chaotic and dysfunctional. Yet as we … [Read more...] about # CHAOS AS A PERMANENT WAY OF LIFE

# THE NEW AG. CAN HE STOP THE ROT IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM?

It has been more than six months since Sitiveni Rabuka promised the Fiji Law Society that he would make changes to the criminal justice system to end the legal mayhem wrought by Siromi Turaga and his handpicked Acting Chief Justice, Salesi Temo. And finally it has happened with Turaga’s removal as Attorney General and his replacement with a former … [Read more...] about # THE NEW AG. CAN HE STOP THE ROT IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM?

# WHAT THE COALITION HASN’T TOLD YOU ABOUT STARLINK

Posted on June 5, 2024 14 Comments

Manoa Kamikamica has led the charge in government to sell the virtues of Elon Musk's Starlink in opening up more remote areas of Fiji to internet services. But what isn't mentioned is the downside - the effect on isolated communities of suddenly being connected to the outside world and the sometimes negative impact of instant … [Read more...] about # WHAT THE COALITION HASN’T TOLD YOU ABOUT STARLINK

# GRAHAM LEUNG REPLACES SIROMI TURAGA AS AG

Posted on June 5, 2024 22 Comments

Never a dull moment in Fiji, that's for sure, with the shock announcement of the removal of the Attorney General, Siromi Turaga, and his replacement from outside the parliament by the veteran lawyer, Graham Leung. The move has long been mooted but Graham Leung continually played down the speculation. But now he moves into the AG's Chambers at … [Read more...] about # GRAHAM LEUNG REPLACES SIROMI TURAGA AS AG

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
