Posted on July 3, 2024 16 Comments

It is back to the 1990s with a vengeance as Sitiveni Rabuka and his puppet, the “Nutty Professor” *, allocate taxpayer funds to give tax breaks to iTaukei wanting to start or develop businesses. The Fiji Development Bank and Merchant Finance become the new National Bank of Fiji in giving interest free loans to wannabe iTaukei business figures … [Read more...] about # IT’S OFFICIAL. It is now five days since three Supreme Court judges told the Acting Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, that he was wrong to appoint John Rabuku Acting DPP because Rabuku was found guilty of professional misconduct and punished by the Independent Legal Services Commission and his appointment violates the Constitution. Both the current Attorney General, … [Read more...] about # TICK, TICK, TICK (UPDATED WED AM)

# THE END OF AN ERA. FIJIFIRST GOES NOT WITH A BANG BUT A WHIMPER

And so, as expected, the party with the most number of seats in the parliament is no more - the once mighty FijiFirst dead and buried and its remaining MPs merely to decide whether they will stick together as an informal bloc of independents in the parliament or join Sitiveni Rabuka in government. Today's de-registration of the party Frank … [Read more...] about # THE END OF AN ERA. FIJIFIRST GOES NOT WITH A BANG BUT A WHIMPER

# THE INK IS DRY. NOW GET ON WITH IT (UPDATED)

The new Attorney General, Graham Leung, responded to the Supreme Court “opinion” on Friday that the Acting DPP, John Rabuku, is ineligible to hold the position by asking everyone to “wait until the ink is dry” before expecting anything to happen. Well it is now Monday morning. And the ink is well and truly dry on the finding that John Rabuku cannot … [Read more...] about # THE INK IS DRY. NOW GET ON WITH IT (UPDATED)

Posted on July 1, 2024 35 Comments

Alarm bells have been triggered in senior business circles about a little known aspect of the Budget announced on Friday in which iTaukei will evidently be able to have access to tax free incentives for business ventures. About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
