# A PRIME MINISTER WHO THINKS FIJIANS ARE IDIOTS

Posted on February 29, 2024 17 Comments

The thing about Sitiveni Rabuka and those around him is that they are not very bright and assume that everyone else is the same. There is frankly no other way to explain the astonishing contents of the speech the Prime Minister delivered yesterday to the Great Council of Chiefs. The Fiji Times headlines Sitiveni Rabuka as having told the chiefs … [Read more...] about # A PRIME MINISTER WHO THINKS FIJIANS ARE IDIOTS

# THE CHIEFS CHOOSE A MILITARY MAN TO LEAD THEM

Posted on February 28, 2024 10 Comments

Right out of left field, the GCC has appointed the former military officer, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, to lead the re-instituted Great Council, bypassing the high chiefs of the confederacies who had also put their names forward. Ro Teimumu Kepa, the Roko Tui Dreketi, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, the Vunivalu of Bau, and Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Tui … [Read more...] about # THE CHIEFS CHOOSE A MILITARY MAN TO LEAD THEM

# THE COALITION’S MISGUIDED SENSE OF PRIORITIES

Posted on February 28, 2024 10 Comments

As the Great Council of Chiefs begins its two day meeting to elect a chair and begin the formal process of advising the government, Grubsheet is struck by the woeful lack of judgment of the Coalition in establishing its priorities. 14 months after it took office, it is still showing a chronic lack of ability to deliver tangible outcomes to improve … [Read more...] about # THE COALITION’S MISGUIDED SENSE OF PRIORITIES

# A METAPHOR FOR A NATION IN FLAMES? (UPDATED)

Posted on February 27, 2024 7 Comments

No-one with a sense of history and love of our capital can fail to be devastated by the fire that gutted one of our oldest landmarks this morning – the Defence Club in Gordon Street, Suva, that has existed for 109 years. Like many people, Grubsheet went into a state of shock when the first pictures emerged. Where were the firefighters, for God’s … [Read more...] about # A METAPHOR FOR A NATION IN FLAMES? (UPDATED)

Posted on February 27, 2024 31 Comments

Lynda Tabuya’s attempt to play victim and turn the spotlight from her “brutal” sex encounter with Aseri Radrodro into a call for more online safety has backfired in spectacular fashion, with her incriminating text messages reaching hundreds of thousands of new readers in New Zealand. Her interview with Radio New Zealand in which she tried to … [Read more...] about # THE ACE MANIPULATOR SCORES AN OWN GOAL

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
