# THE POLITICS OF WATCHING AND WAITING

Posted on July 7, 2012 7 Comments

One person will be watching the current trial of Laisenia Qarase with more than usual interest - his predecessor as prime minister and would-be political partner, Mahendra Chaudhry. Will he or won’t he be convicted? Chaudhry knows that if Qarase is found guilty, he’ll be removed from the political scene and theirs will be the briefest of … [Read more...] about # THE POLITICS OF WATCHING AND WAITING

#105 TESTING TIMES (UPDATED 8/7)

Posted on July 5, 2012 68 Comments

UPDATE -RESPONSE FROM DR MARC EDGE IN THE COMMENTS SECTION: You have to wonder what is going at the Fiji Times when its senior reporters write blatant commercials masquerading as news. How else to explain the piece below by Verenaisi Raicola extolling the virtues of the Cozmo Lounge in Suva? At the very least, this puffiest of puff pieces should … [Read more...] about #105 TESTING TIMES (UPDATED 8/7)

#103 NEW YORK TIMES ON FIJI

Posted on July 3, 2012 22 Comments

The New York Times and its sister paper, the International Herald Tribune, have carried the first in a series of stories on Fiji by Matt Siegel, their Sydney-based correspondent who gained unimpeded access to the country last month. There's no significant news break, which is mildly surprising considering Siegel had lengthy sessions with both the … [Read more...] about #103 NEW YORK TIMES ON FIJI

#102 BOMBERS AT COUP 4.5

Posted on June 28, 2012 114 Comments

There seems to be no depths to which the depraved denizens of Coup 4.5  -the anti-government website – won’t plunge in their frustration at failing to derail Fiji’s march towards a fairer democracy. These so-called “journalists” are regular purveyors of racism and hate dressed up as respectable analysis (see our previous posting) but they’ve … [Read more...] about #102 BOMBERS AT COUP 4.5

# 101 WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION

Posted on June 28, 2012 23 Comments

“The guilty shall be convicted and the innocent shall be acquitted”, declared Fiji’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, in a recent address to the Fiji New Zealand Business Council. Stating the bleeding obvious – you’d imagine – except when doubts continue to be expressed about the independence and impartiality of the country’s … [Read more...] about # 101 WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
