# PLEASE EXPLAIN. AN OPEN LETTER TO RICHARD NAIDU

Posted on October 1, 2024 37 Comments

The lawyer, Richard Naidu, has enjoyed decades of being lionised as a conscience of the nation ever since indigenous supremacists dug a lovo pit for him outside the parliament in 1987 when he was press secretary to the ousted prime minister, Timoci Bavadra . He has been a “go to” for anyone concerned about good governance and human rights, … [Read more...] about # PLEASE EXPLAIN. AN OPEN LETTER TO RICHARD NAIDU

# TO STOP THE “ROT”, THE ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE MUST BE REMOVED (UPDATED MON PM)

Posted on September 30, 2024 39 Comments

As the clamour intensifies for an official inquiry into the circumstances of Barbara Malimali's appointment at FICAC, the real question is what form that inquiry would take. Because there is no mechanism under the Constitution for the setting up of the local equivalent of a special "Royal Commission" that is common in our larger neighbours to … [Read more...] about # TO STOP THE “ROT”, THE ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE MUST BE REMOVED (UPDATED MON PM)

The Fiji Times is now the Pravda of Fiji - the local equivalent of the official communist party newspaper of Soviet times - the voice of the government just as the Fiji Sun used to be the local Pravda until their roles reversed after the last election. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the great pastime of "Kremlin Watchers" was to scan … [Read more...] about # THE FIJI TIMES DEVOTES THREE PAGES TO THE FICAC SCANDAL. On the evening of August 31, 2016, and in the early hours of September 1, 2016, Barbara Malimali - the newly appointed FICAC Commissioner - was at the centre of an extraordinary scandal involving a High Court judge in Tuvalu in which she was drunk, went swimming in the ocean and behaved in a manner that compromised the judge hearing a case against … [Read more...] about # SCANDAL. # MEMO COMMANDER CUDDLY: NEVER SAY “NEVER AGAIN”

Posted on September 27, 2024 17 Comments

For anyone with a long memory and a healthy dose of scepticism, there was something decidedly unsettling about Jone Kalouniwai's "reconciliation" love-in up at the Camp yesterday, not least because some very big military names decided to give it a miss. There was no sign of the big three former military officers in the parliament - the … [Read more...] about # MEMO COMMANDER CUDDLY: NEVER SAY “NEVER AGAIN”

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
