# PETER SIPELI GIVES VISITORS A DOSE OF REALITY IN HIS TOURS OF THE UNDERBELLY OF FIJI’S CAPITAL

Posted on September 6, 2025 5 Comments

13 years ago, I wrote an article about my place of birth entitled "Suva, City of Dreams". (See the link below) Even then, there was a degree of derision about the white man who had clearly had too much sun ( or strong drink) with his romanticised depiction of a city that few other people could still recognise. But I made, and make, no apology … [Read more...] about # PETER SIPELI GIVES VISITORS A DOSE OF REALITY IN HIS TOURS OF THE UNDERBELLY OF FIJI’S CAPITAL

# THE REAL OPPOSITION LEADER OUTSIDE THE PARLIAMENT SINKS THE KNIFE INTO THE COALITION’S ISRAELI JUNKET

Posted on September 5, 2025 40 Comments

Mahendra Chaudhry once again demonstrates that he is far from a spent force in politics and will be the man to watch next year with his withering condemnation of the government's 17-member mission to Israel for the opening of Fiji's new embassy in Jerusalem. (see below) Chaudhry is a master strategist, beginning his assault with the leaking of … [Read more...] about # THE REAL OPPOSITION LEADER OUTSIDE THE PARLIAMENT SINKS THE KNIFE INTO THE COALITION’S ISRAELI JUNKET

# A GLOBAL OBSCENITY. WHILE ISRAEL IS ACCUSED OF GENOCIDE* IN GAZA, THE FIJIAN LEADERSHIP LIVES HIGH ON THE HOG OF ISRAELI HOSPITALITY

Posted on September 4, 2025 70 Comments

It is a total disgrace that Fiji is sending no less than 17 officials - none of them Indo-Fijian - to Israel for the opening of the nation's new embassy in Jerusalem. Even if Israel is picking up the tab for this extravaganza - and it better be - it is the worst possible look when most other countries with any conscience are giving Israel a wide … [Read more...] about # A GLOBAL OBSCENITY. # POOR CHARLIE. A CLASSIC CASE OF OVERREACH (UPDATED THURSDAY AM)

Posted on September 3, 2025 12 Comments

We shall not be seeing Charlie Charters - the bête noire of the Supreme Court Commission of Inquiry into the Malimali affair - back in Fiji anytime soon. Because he now faces the prospect of a two year jail sentence for insulting the Commissioner, Justice David Ashton-Lewis, and the Counsel Assisting the COI, Janet Mason. This is what Section … [Read more...] about # POOR CHARLIE. A CLASSIC CASE OF OVERREACH (UPDATED THURSDAY AM)

# SOMETHING BIG IS BREWING. BUT WHAT? (UPDATED WED AM WITH THE PM SAYING THE COI FINDINGS STAND)

Posted on September 3, 2025 19 Comments

Trying to decipher what is going on in the Coalition in Fiji is a bit like trying to decipher what was going on in the Kremlin during the Soviet era - a combination of getting small bits of information and piecing them together like a jigsaw puzzle to try to produce a complete picture or sometimes simple guesswork. Take this cryptic FBC News … [Read more...] about # SOMETHING BIG IS BREWING. BUT WHAT? (UPDATED WED AM WITH THE PM SAYING THE COI FINDINGS STAND)

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
