# THE OTHER LYNDA. A TRAGIC STORY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Posted on May 1, 2024 15 Comments

Domestic violence is not just a big issue in Fiji. In Australia, debate has been raging for days about a wave of recent cases of women murdered by their partners and demands by women's rights advocates for a Royal Commission to uncover the extent of a truly alarming crisis. For Fijian women, there is a great deal of resonance in the Australian … [Read more...] about # THE OTHER LYNDA. A TRAGIC STORY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

# THE ONLY DIFFERENCE? ONE WOMAN DIED, THE OTHER DIDN’T

Posted on April 30, 2024 27 Comments

Strange old world, isn't it? One man is charged with killing his partner in a domestic violence incident and if convicted, will spend much of the rest of his life behind bars. The other bashed his wife to within an inch of her life but her father, the Prime Minister, managed to find her in the nick of time and save her. And now her attacker, Aseri … [Read more...] about # THE ONLY DIFFERENCE? ONE WOMAN DIED, THE OTHER DIDN’T

# CHINA’S BIG PACIFIC SETBACK

China has lost its strongest regional supporter with the Solomons leader, Manasseh Sogavare, being forced to stand aside after failing to gain a majority in the country's election. After dominating Solomons politics for four decades, Sogavare 's governing party won just 15 seats, well short of the 26 seats needed to form government . Last year, … [Read more...] about # CHINA’S BIG PACIFIC SETBACK

# THE TOADIES IN CHARGE OF EDUCATING FIJIAN KIDS

Posted on April 29, 2024 43 Comments

Doubtless like many people, Grubsheet has had to reach for the sick-bag after one of the most cringemaking and totally undeserved instances of arse-licking in the sorry history of arse-licking in Fiji. I'm not even going to try to paraphrase the vomit-inducing comments by the General Secretary of the Fiji Teachers Union, Muniappa Gounder, about … [Read more...] about # THE TOADIES IN CHARGE OF EDUCATING FIJIAN KIDS

# THE NEW FIJI. STOMPING ON SOMEONE WHEN THEY’RE DOWN

Posted on April 28, 2024 12 Comments

Fiji's reputation for sportsmanship is being dragged through the mud in Australia after Fijian Drua player Jennifer Ravutia stomped on a NSW player's chest in the Drua's clash against the Waratahs. It was an absolute disgrace that has brought shame on the player, the team and the nation. The Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, made light of the … [Read more...] about # THE NEW FIJI. # WELL THAT WAS A DUMB IDEA

Posted on April 28, 2024 17 Comments

The qori ( "there, that's what you deserve") moment of the week has got to be the slapping-down of Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Mohammed Saneem by two of the three Supreme Court judges hearing the cabinet's application to determine if the Constitution actually permits the appointments of John Rabuku as Acting DPP and Alipate Qetaki as a … [Read more...] about # WELL THAT WAS A DUMB IDEA

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
